Annabelle: Creation Info

In October 2015, it was confirmed that an Annabelle sequel was in development. David F. Sandberg replaced Annabelles John R. Leonetti as the sequel’s director in March 2016. The first film’s screenwriter, Gary Dauberman, returned to write the script, with Peter Safran and James Wan returning to produce.  Benjamin Wallfisch composed the film’s score and then later in March 2017, Sandberg revealed the film is a prequel and the title is Annabelle: Creation.  On review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an approval rating of 100% based on 10 reviews, with an average rating of 7.9/10. Metacritic, another review aggregator, assigned the film a weighted average score of 71 out of 100, based on 4 critics, indicating “generally favorable reviews”.

The story is focused on a dollmaker and his wife, whose daughter died twenty years earlier, as they decide to open their home to a nun and several girls from an orphanage that has been closed. The dollmaker’s possessed creation, Annabelle 2, sets her sights on the girls, turning their shuddered shelter into a storm of terror. The film was initially set to release on May 19, 2017. It was then pushed back to August 11, 2017, to avoid competition with Alien: Covenant. The film premiered at the Los Angeles Film Festival on June 19, 2017.
