The Mist is a science fiction-horror thriller television series developed by Christian Torpe for Spike. It is based on the horror novella of the same name back in 2007 where the story was after a powerful storm damages their Maine home, David Drayton (Thomas Jane) and his young son head into town to gather food and supplies. Soon afterward, a thick fog rolls in and engulfs the town, trapping the Draytons and others in the grocery store. Terror mounts as deadly creatures reveal themselves outside, but that may be nothing compared to the threat within, where a zealot (Marcia Gay Harden) calls for a sacrifice.

Following the release of Frank Darabont’s film adaptation of The Mist in 2007, executive producers Bob and Harvey Weinstein announced plans to develop a miniseries based on the film. In November 2013, Bob Weinstein announced that a 10-part miniseries would begin production under their Dimension Television banner. It was unclear if film director Darabont would be involved in the series and the development remained stagnant for a period of time.

They reimaginate the story where the residents of a small town are engulfed by a foreboding mist containing inexplicable threats. Back in July 2016, Dimension Television announced Morgan Spector would play the lead character of Kevin Copeland. Other cast members announced included Frances Conroy, Alyssa Sutherland, Gus Birney, Dan Butler, Luke Cosgrove, Danica Curcic, Okezie Morro, Darren Pettie, Russell Posner and Isiah Whitlock, Jr. The first season premiered on June 22, 2017, and will consist of ten episodes.

IT Info

IT is an 1991 TV mini series adaptation of Stephen King’s IT amassed a cult following, and Tim Curry’s original performance as the town-terrorizing clown pennywise has set a high bar for anyone to following the role, So when director Andy Muschietti revealed his new version of the character, now played by by Bill Skarsgard, in  a costumer that could’ve easily been borrowed from a schoolgirl’s dress, it’s only natural that he faced a little blowback. It is intended to be the first installment in a planned duology, as well as being the second adaptation following Tommy Lee Wallace’s 1990 miniseries. The film tells the story of seven children in Derry, Maine, who are terrorized by the eponymous being, only to face their own personal demons in the process.

The film has been described as a loss of innocence film, with fear, mortality and survivalist themes. Muschietti remarked of the film’s elements of coming of age and issues of mortality, wherein he states such themes are prevalent in King’s book, though that in reality these occur in a more progressive way,

“There’s a passage [in It] that reads, ‘Being a kid is learning how to live and being an adult is learning how to die. There’s a bit of a metaphor of that and it just happens in a very brutal way, of course.”

He also mentioned the characterization Pennywise’s survivalist attitude, and a passage in the novel, which inspired Muschietti was when Bill wonders if Pennywise is eating children simply because that’s what we’re told monsters do, in stating,

“It’s a tiny bit of information, but that sticks with you so much. Maybe it is real as long as children believe in it. And in a way, Pennywise’s character is motivated by survival. In order to be alive in the imagination of children, he has to keep killing.”

Release Date:

It is scheduled to be released in North America on September 8, 2017. On March 7, 2017, the title of the film was announced by Stephen King as Part 1 – The Losers’ Club or IT.
